Current Financial Software Solution

At this point, I have given up on most of the major players in the financial software world. I am currently using jGnash2 and it is working ok. I do miss the nice, clean reports and trends that I can see in Mint, Quicken, Yodlee, etc. I did try using AceMoney for the free trial period. While it was nice in some ways, I found the reporting to be almost useless.

jGnash2 has a few things I like. First, I can enter a lot of register entries without using my mouse much. They have some clever keyboard shortcuts that can really make life easiser. Second, the reports (while somewhat primitive) do give me what I want. Third, the stock quote integration is pretty good, and I don't have to think about it too much. I am manually managing everything now, so all the concerns about the import from investment institutions do not exist.

Strangely enough, the last two things I like are also things I don't like. I'd love to have better reporting and useful imports from financial institutions. It's just that no one seems to provide that very well.

For now, I am sticking to jGnash. The only option I'm also looking at is KMyMoney. The last time I tried it, it crashed a lot on Windows. There's an update, so I might give it another whirl.

Strange Girlfriend Quotes

My girlfriend recently made the comment that I should be writing down all the verbal gems that she throws out on an almost constant basis. It's true that I have been lax in saving these somewhere.

Inspired by sites like Crazy Things Parents Say, I set off to create a site of my own. It has now launched as Strange Girlfriend Quotes. While it is created to save the gems my girlfriend has uttered, it is not limited to me. Anyone can add, and the comments will be periodically approved or deleted throughout the day. Go forth and report on your girlfriends' weird statements.

Clue Gunshots

I'm writing this because there apparently aren't enough places on the internet that actually tell you where the 5 gunshots in the movie "Clue" are. To help all those out there who desperately need to know this to settle an argument (as I recently did), here is the result after rewatching the movie this evening.

  1. Missed shot in the study when Mr. Boddy turns out the lights
  2. Chandelier
  3. Door
  4. Door
  5. Singing Telegram

The first ending uses all 6 shots by Wadsworth firing the last one into the other chandalier to prove that the gun is actually empty. That chandalier eventually falls right behind Colonel Mustard. The second ending does not get a 6th shot. The third ending is not completely clear without a very detailed analysis, but Wadsworth may get off a stray shot as Mr. Green shoots him.
